Hon. IRENE NYAKERARIO MAYAKA, MP

A mother of One and a Kenyan Politician, currently serves as a Nominated Member of Parliament in Kenya representing ODM Party, the current Vice president for Eastern Africa Region for Africa Liberal Network (A network body for Liberal Political Parties in Africa) and a former Special Elect Member of Nyamira County Assembly (One of the 47 Counties in Kenya governed by Governors). 

Irene is a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Option) Graduate, An Accountant and Certified Public Secretary by Profession. Previously worked as Banker with 11 years’ experience in Management with responsibilities in Client Experience, service quality and Portfolio management. Currently the Africa Liberal Network Ambassador for the Women Leadership Program,2022 and the Second Runner-up in the Ms. President

Community and social welfare roles:

 Patron and founder Member of the Lobby Group, ‘Daughters of Raila’ which was instrumental in the 2017 and 2022 Presidential Campaign and currently focusing on Women in Political Leadership with a success rate of having 2 Members in National Assembly – Parliament and 10 Other Members Nominated across the Country as Members of County Assembly.

 End - FGM champion for Nyamira County – Based on SDG Goal 5 on Gender Equality and having gone through the practice as a Young Girl, she has taken a leading role to end the practice within Her local community in Gusii which is one of the hot spots of FGM.
 Patron of Tombe Starlets Football Team - The Only Women’s Team from Nyamira County playing in the National Division 1 league.
 Patron of the Nyamira Youth nest – A Network of Young People within the County of Nyamira.

Irene is keen social mobilizer, mental driver is the mantra that, ' The glass is always half full, never half empty' and believes in not only leading from the front, but also being part of the core-team that is driving and championing change. My guiding principles are resilience, high integrity, professionalism, humility, hard work, respect for mankind and respect for God.
