Wangechi Wachira-Executive Director for Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW

Ms. Wangechi Wachira is a visionary and passionate women’s rights advocate and versatile Executive Director for Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW), a national Feminist, women’s rights organization that is Non-Governmental and focuses on championing and building agency among women and girls to transform and build an equal society.

Wangechi has over 16 years of experience in senior management and has worked for decades to advance gender equality, particularly on ending all forms of violence against women and girls, Supporting Women's economic empowerment (WEE), promoting effective participation of women and girls in leadership, and ensuring universal access to sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.
Prior to working at CREAW, Wangechi worked at the Non-Governmental Organization Council of Kenya, coordinating activities on pro-poor process including Economic Recovery and millennium Development goals (MDGS). She also serves in the advisory board of Urgent Action Fund (UAF), Pandemic Action Network Africa (PANA) and most recently International Finance Corporation (IFC)-Technical Advisory Committee on Child Sexual Abuse Community Services Program.

Wangechi has broadened her human rights expertise by undertaking various international training programs, such as the Training in Human Rights at the Raul Wallenberg Institute and Strategic Management Training for NGO Leaders hosted by Harvard Kennedy School and the University of Navarra. She holds a B.A. in Social Sciences and an M.A. in Gender and Development from the University of Nairobi.

Finally, Wangechi is also the recipient of the Women on Boards Network (WOBN) 2022 Individual Empowering Grassroots Women Award. Demonstrating dedication, fortitude, strong vision, and diligence, this passionate women’s rights advocate continues to make a positive impact on the lives of women and girls in Kenya.Wangechi is a mother to three girls.
